Dennis J. and Cora Viator David were the founders of David Funeral Home. In 1943 they became involved in funeral service when Mr. David began working part-time for Mr. George Berges who owned Berges Funeral Home on St. Peter Street in New Iberia. Berges Funeral Home began its operations in 1937.
In 1961 after the death of Mr. Berges, Mr.& Mrs. David acquired Mrs. Berges’ interest and they became sole owners and operators of Berges Funeral Home.
In 1964 a new funeral home was built in New Iberia at 1101 Trotter Street and the name changed from Berges Funeral Home to David Funeral Home.
The David Family later purchased W. L. Landry Funeral Home in Jeanerette and established David Funeral Home of Youngsville, David Funeral Home of Loreauville and David Funeral Home of Broussard.
In 1994 Mr. & Mrs. David retired and relinquished ownership to their sons Danny J. David, Sr., Richard David, and Royal David but remained as consultants. The David Family expanded their commitment to the community and funeral service by establishing David Marble & Granite, acquiring Jacquemoud Funeral Home, Hebert Funeral Home of Abbeville and Broussard Funeral Home of Erath. Then in 2004 Beau Pre’ Memorial Park Cemetery & Mausoleum was purchased and is currently one of the most attractive cemeteries in our service area.
In October of 2024 Walter “Sammy” Frioux, a native of Jeanerette and Regional Manager of David Funeral Homes in Vermilion and Lafayette Parish, purchased David Funeral Home and its affiliated companies at which time Frioux-David Funeral Home and Frioux-David Marble and Granite were formed.
