New Iberia– Graveside Services will be held for Mrs. Zella Joyce Hill Bullock, 93, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Beau Pre Memorial Park at 9:30AM with Pastor Jacob LeBlanc officiating. Entombment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park.
Our Mom, Zella Joyce Hill Bullock, joined our Dad, Willie Ray Bullock, in heaven on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023. He probably asked her “What took you so long?” and then told her “I’ve been waiting for you.”
The two of them met in Christiansburg, Virginia, where Mom lived. Dad was working on a nearby rig, which was very different from his Mississippi upbringing. They fell in love, and he moved her to Louisiana where they enjoyed life together for 69 years.
They often traveled back to Virginia in a blue and white station wagon with 5 daughters hanging out the windows trying to get truckers to blow their horns! And of course, all those picnics on the side of the road were memorable.
Dad always worked in the oilfield, so when he was home they loved to travel; for a long while by motorhome, and for a while by motorcycle. Mom said they’d clean up in the creek next to their tent. When they weren’t traveling they enjoyed working in the yard together, fishing, camping, and hanging out with their neighbors. Mom also loved to bowl and was a member of a league.
We hope their reunion was epic and although we will miss Mom, we are happy to know that she is with her sweetheart.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Sue Fremin, Teresa Faye Ivey and husband James, Deborah Kay Dartez and husband Robert, Vickie Lynn Dubois and husband Greg, Tammy Rae Faulk; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and two siblings, Hazel Brammer and Everette Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Ray” Bullock; parents, Roscoe and Cora Hill; two sisters, Betty Lou Altizer, Margaret Hall; one brother, Willard Hill; grandson, Scott Fremin; and son-in-law, Patrick Fremin.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Kaytlan Maturin, Patrick Fremin Jr., James William Ivey Jr., Robbie Fremin, Jeffrey Fremin, Slade Maturin, Hobie Maturin and Brandon Ivey.
