New Iberia ~ A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held for Miss. Velma Domingue, 63, at a later date.
Miss Velma Domingue, a woman of wit, warmth, and wonder, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion. A devoted cat mom, Velma cherished her two beautiful feline companions as if they were her children, showering them with affection and unconditional love. A self-declared "talker," Velma was well-known for her vibrant conversations and joyful presence. Though her siblings could hold their own in lively discussions, Velma always came out on top—sharing stories, ideas, and laughter that brightened every room she entered. Her love of literature found a home in the works of Kurt Vonnegut, whose satirical and darkly humorous novels provided both escape and reflection. She could often be found curled up with a book, lost in Vonnegut's unique view of the world. Velma was also an exceptionally talented crocheter, her hands crafting warmth and beauty into every stitch. She found joy in creating pieces that reflected her creativity and care. A proud Trekkie, Velma adored all things Star Trek and was known to flash the Vulcan salute with impressive precision—always with a cheerful "Live Long and Prosper." She also had a soft spot for Doctor Who, delighting in the adventures of the Doctor and the iconic blue TARDIS that traveled through time and space. For over 40 years, Velma dedicated her professional life to Dexcomm, working as a telecommunications specialist. Her calming voice and genuine desire to help others made her a perfect fit for the role, touching countless lives throughout her long and loyal career. Velma Domingue will be remembered for her humor, her heart, and her unapologetic love for the things that brought her joy. She was truly one of a kind—a guiding voice, a loyal friend, and a kind soul who made the world a little brighter just by being in it.
Miss Velma Domingue is survived by her mother, Theresa Blanchard Domingue of New Iberia; two brothers, Micheal Domingue of Lafayette and William Domingue of New Iberia; two sisters, Donner Fontenot and her husband Lynn of Baldwin, and Joy King and her husband Danny of Centerville; and her two loving cats, April and Closepin.
She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence John Domingue.
