Velma Theresa Comeaux Derouen

New Iberia- A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Holy Family Cemetery Chapel with Deacon Joshua LeBlanc officiating. Inurnment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Velma Comeaux Derouen went to her heavenly home on May 3, 2024.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 1:30PM until the time of services.

Velma was born on July 1, 1930. She was a native of Egan, Louisiana, former resident of New Iberia and resident of Baton Rouge. She was a devote Catholic and while living in New Iberia was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and in Baton Rouge a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Velma loved to read her bible and spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and preparing delicious meals. She was a great listener who liked helping others.

She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Mae Derouen of Baton Rouge and her grandchildren, Nicholas Derouen and his wife Dawn of Toledo Bend and Bradley Derouen and his wife Robin of New Iberia. Velma is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Bryce Derouen and Braxton Derouen both of Toledo Bend; Shay Brazil and his wife Kacy of Provencal, Ethan Derouen of Toledo Bend, Patience Derouen of New Iberia and great great-grandchildren Talon and Kashton Brazil of Provencal. She is also survived by her extended family Tika and Trinity Laudun of Baton Rouge and Blaine Landry of Denham Springs.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband Thomas “Pete” Derouen, son Michael Derouen, her father Raymond Comeaux, and her brothers Buford, Wallace, and Robert Comeaux.

Words cannot express the appreciation for the devoted and loving caregivers of White Oak Rehabilitation Center and Heart of Hospice of Baton Rouge and the priests and deacons of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
