Velma Guilbeaux Broussard

Lafayette- A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Velma Guilbeaux Broussard, 81, will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 12:00PM with Fr. Michael Delcambre officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 3:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 8:00AM until time of services. A resident of Breaux Bridge, Mrs. Velma passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She worked at Evangelin Downs Racetrack for 33 years. Then went to work for the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court office and retired after 27 years. She enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the penny slots, cooking, camping, dancing, tending to her flowers, and most of all spending time with her family. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Don Broussard of Breaux Bridge; her daughter, Paula Broussard Kelly and her husband Robert of Broussard; her sons, Kurt Broussard and his wife Angela of Lafayette, Ronnie Broussard and his wife Kim of Broussard, and J.D. Broussard of Broussard; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Barilleaux, Amber Leonard, Shauna Trahan, Barret Broussard, Alexis Abshire, Courtney Broussard, and Jordan Broussard; and her nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Laurent Guilbeaux and Viola Douet Guilbeaux. Serving as pallbears will be Kurt Broussard, Barret Broussard, J.D. Broussard, Robert Kelly, Mitchell Leonard, and Dustin Trahan. The Broussard Family would like to extend a special thank you to Tina Landry and Annabelle Menard who cared for Mrs. Velma in her time of need, and the entire staff at Ochsner of St. Martin Hospital, especially Dr. Reyes.
