Travis Bonin was an extraordinary man whose life was a tapestry of cherished moments and remarkable skills. An avid hunter and fisher, he found solace and joy in the great outdoors, often retreating to the camp he so proudly built with his own hands. A dedicated welder whose hands crafted not only metal but also the essence of hard work and determination. A true jack of all trades, he constructed his air boat, crafted his own guns, and could build or fix anything that came his way.
His love of children, holidays and his family gatherings were the highlight of his life, filled with laughter, warmth, cherished traditions, and the mouthwatering aromas of his legendary gumbo and gravies. A history and military buff, his conversations were always enriched with fascinating tales and facts. His pride in his son, a Marine, was immeasurable, and his love for his wife of 35 years and their son was the cornerstone of his existence.
A pillar of strength and loyalty, he was a generous friend who would do anything for anyone, and cherished moments spent sharing coffee with friends at the trading post. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the countless memories he created and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered with love and admiration.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dawn Broussard Bonin of Jeanerette; a son, Brandon Bonin and his girlfriend Abby Buteau of Jeanerette; his parents, Norbert and Marylane “Mimi” Bonin; a sister, Natilie Strubb and her husband Lance of Franklin; a brother, Jared Bonin of Jeanerette; a grandson, Levi Beach; two nephews, Zachary Bonin and Tyler McElfresh; two nieces, Asa Strubb and Bella Strubb; an aunt, Peggy Fitch; two uncles, Keith LeBlanc and Charlie Buras; and three godchildren, Hunter Broussard, Brette Fitch, and Lexi Fitch.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Norbert Bonin, Bella Bonin Thibodeaux, and Lawrence Thibodeaux; his maternal grandparents, August and Mabel Buras; two uncles, Mike Fitch and Bobby Bonin, Sr.; two aunts, Judy LeBlanc and Bernice Bonin; and his in-laws, Oswald and Lodo Broussard.
