From May 1952 to May 1954 Sully served in the United States Army and was part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He made his way up to Corporal before his honorable discharge.
Sully’s life was a testament to his love for the outdoors, craftsmanship, and his adventurous spirit.
Born and raised with a deep appreciation for nature, Sully spent much of his life immersed in the pursuits he cherished most. An avid deer and duck hunter, he enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and the peace of the woods. Fishing trips were a regular part of his life, where he found solace by the water, always surrounded by good company and the quiet beauty of the wild.
Sully’s love for building was evident in the boats he crafted with his father—wooden boats and airboats that they meticulously designed together. These creations weren’t just vessels; they were symbols of the bond between father and son and the joy of building something with your own hands.
In addition to his outdoor passions, Sully was an accomplished pilot. With a deep love for aviation, he spent many hours in the sky, whether flying for leisure or exploring new horizons. His plane was his pride, and the skies were his second home.
Sully also found joy in simple pleasures—he loved gathering with friends to play cards, sharing stories, and creating memories. His warmth and laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Elaine Berard; a daughter, Julianna Faucheaux and her husband Jim; a son, Jett Berard and his wife Melanie; a step son, Jason Schilling and his wife Chrystal; a granddaughter, Ashley Faucheaux; and step granddaughter, Kristina Schilling; a step grandson, David Glover; and a sister, Brenda Berard.
He is preceded by his first wife, Juliette Bernard Berard; his parents, Sully Sr. and Anita Boudreaux Berard; a brother, Burns Berard; and a sister, Sue Ellen Berard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Berard, Charlie Berard, Jack Viator, Shawn Winch, Leslie Bergeron, and Jeff Robin.
Sully’s spirit will forever soar, whether hunting in the woods, fishing by the river, or flying high in the sky. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
