Shirley Derise Mickel

Jeanerette – A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Derise Mickel, 75, will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, January 27, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Jeanerette with Fr. Paul Broussard officiating. Interment will follow at a later Date.

Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, January 27, 2025 beginning at 1:00PM until 2:00PM.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Mickel died at 8:00AM on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Iberia Medical Center. She was an incredible mother and loving grandmother with a spunky spirit who filled the role of mother and caregiver to many. While her husband served our country in the US Navy, she organized a group of Navy wives that helped new Navy wives adapt to Navy Life. She also enjoyed playing her casino games and doing crossword puzzles.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Mickel of New Iberia and Donna Mickel Camors and her husband Robert Camors, III. Of Jeanerette; four grandchildren, Hillary Champagne and her husband Andre, Robert Camors, IV and his wife Hannah, Thomas Lightell, and Joshua Lightell; two great grandchildren, Liam Champagne and Luke Champagne; and a sister-in-law, Sue Derise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lohr Mickel; her parents, Dewey Daniel Derise and Anna Aucoin Derise; and three brothers, Dewey Derise, Jr., Donald Derise, and Russell Derise.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Camors, III., Robert Camors, IV., Andre Champagne, Allen Boudoin, Moise Guillotte, Jr., and Dana Landry.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clemile Boudoin, Thomas Lightell, and Joshua Lightell.
