Robert B. Duck

December 23, 1943 — October 21, 2022

Abbeville - Robert Benjamin Duck was born on December 23, 1943. He left this earth on October 21, 2022, to join his beautiful bride, Ruby. His world was incomplete when she left this earth, and now, he joins her in Heaven. He leaves behind his broken-hearted children and their spouses, Kevin Duck and his wife, Stacy; Angella Harrington and her husband Bobby and his “favorite” Kayla Day and her husband Sean. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Dylan Duck, Whitney Touchet, Danni Duck Duhon and her husband, Lucas Duhon, Laura Lee Harrington, Ethan Harrington, Kennedie Bourque, Laken Day and his great grandchildren, Carter Hill, Johlee Gilbert and Romee Duhon.

Robert, or as he was affectionately known by parents, brother, sisters and loved ones, “Bubba”. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Romero Duck;  his father, Dallas Duck; his mother, Maude Hebert Duck and his brother, Durwood Duck. He is survived by his sisters, Dora Bertrand (Sidney Lee Bertrand) and Rebecca Broussard (Ronnie Broussard); his godchild, Andre Duhon and his many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Robert was born and raised in Abbeville. He was a free spirit who loved life and was the life of the party. He was always young at heart. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Constellation. Upon returning from the US Navy, he met his bride and love of his life, Ruby Romero. Together they built a family that always believed in each other and loved each other.  He always had a smile and a hug for his bride and his children and always let them know how much they were loved.

He worked in the oil field and suffered a serious incident in 1973. He was told by his doctors that he would lose his leg and he would unlikely walk again. Not only did he walk again, but he went on to serve as a deputy for the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department and a police officer with the Abbeville City Police Department. He had an incredible work ethic his entire life and strived for perfection at everything he attempted.

He was as tough as nails. He never surrendered and never backed down from anything or anyone. He had a big heart and he loved big with that big heart! He loved to laugh and joke with his friends and his family. He will always be fondly remembered and terribly missed by the ones he loved and those who loved him.

Honorary Pallbearers are Robert M. Harrington, Sean Day, Dylan Duck, Ethan Harrington and Carter Hill.

A special thanks to his nurses, Kanda, Queenie, Jaleesa and friend and housekeeper, Carissa! The family would also like to express our thanks and gratitude to Mark Artall and United Medical Staffing services.
