Peter Alan Elner, Sr. passed away on March 14 th , 2023 at the age of 80, in Lafayette, LA. Pete was born in Whittier, CA and attended San Marino High School, spending his free time as most Southern California teens did, surfing and attending parties (one even at Annette Funicello’s!). While in college at UC Berkeley, Pete was offered a career with IBM, but instead chose to fight for his country and joined the United States Air Force. While stationed in Fairfield, CA, he met the love of his life, Mary, with whom he had three children. After the military, he worked for Baker Oil Tools and retired after many years.
Pete’s hobbies included playing cards and watching all manner of sports. He could recount ball players stats at the drop of a hat and he was a whiz at game shows and trivia. He loved camping and fishing, and provided countless beautiful memories for his family in places such as Lake Tahoe, Caples Lake and Bishop, CA, just to name a few.
His smile, sarcasm, and memorable inflection on some of his favorite sayings (and bright red hair, still at 80!) will be sorely missed.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Mary ‘Ginger’ Elner.
Pete is survived by his daughter Aline and son-in-law Chip, his daughter Gina, his son Alan, his six grandchildren Nick, Chris, Austin, Rachel, Anthony and Shane, and his two great-grandchildren, Paige and Genevieve.
