Olive Taylor Brantley, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023. Mrs. Brantley was born in Lou Ann, Arkansas on February 11, 1925. Her family moved to Centerville/Burns Point in the East Cote Blanche Bay area of Louisiana. She was salutatorian of her high school graduating class in Centerville, Louisiana. Her college freshman year was at Louisiana Tech (Ruston). She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1949, with a major in Home Economics. While attending LSU and teaching in White Castle she met her husband, John Norvel Brantley, then enjoyed being a “stay at home” mom, while taking pleasure in traveling, fishing, substitute teaching, entertaining family and friends. During the early 80’s she enjoyed travels to Europe along with assisting her brother, Glenn Taylor, and her nephew, Sherman Taylor, as she attempted to fill the empty void of losing her husband. In 1986, at 61 years of age, she received her certification in floral arranging. At the age of 64, Olive enrolled in the division of continuing education (independent study by correspondence) at the University of Florida. She completed child growth and development – the foundation years. Olive was an educator in several parishes in Louisiana and Dade County in Florida as she enjoyed learning, teaching, and making people smile. Mrs. Brantley is survived by her two children, John Alton Brantley and his wife Johnet, of Youngsville, and Norvelee “Norva” B. Mestayer of Broussard; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nineteen nieces and nephews; and one surviving sister Edwina (Myra) Picou, of Thibodeaux. She was preceded in death by her husband John Norvel Brantley; her parents, Virgil Lee Taylor and Eula Gustavia Cruse Taylor; sisters, Euna Vilcan, Virginia (Doris) Cole; one brother, Glenn Madison Taylor; and her son-in-law, Clarence Anthony Mestayer.
