Jeanerette--Michael I. Moceri, age 72, a native of Jeanerette and living in Baton Rouge for the last two years passed away on March 7, 2024, following a brief stay in a Covington Hospital for Kidney Disease.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Lisa Moceri Barker, and son-in-law, Sam Barker of New Iberia; his son, Marc Moceri of Simi Valley, California; a sister, Cathy Moceri Sikes of Humble, Texas; and 3 grandchildren, Harrison Barker, Jillian Barker, and Emily Barker of New Iberia.
He was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Barbara Smith Moceri.
Upon graduating from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Jeanerette, he went to Nicholls State in Thibodeaux, LA for a year. He was then drafted into the Navy and was sent to Vietnam for a couple of tours of duty. When he was discharged, he returned to Jeanerette and enrolled at USL for drafting design. He worked freelance before settling into his passion for music, (piano, keyboard, guitar, and organ). Music was his lifelong passion, sharing his gift with senior citizens in the Teche Area. His other passion was writing songs, poetry, and political satires.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Beau Pre’ Memorial Park on May 28, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Michael’s name to the Kidney Foundation, NAMI, or a Charity of your choice.
