Lafayette – Funeral Services for Mrs. Merline Marie Lopez Romero, 85, will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at David Funeral Home of Lafayette with Deacon Keith Duhon officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in New Iberia. Visitation will begin at 8:30AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at David Funeral Home of Lafayette until the time of service with a recitation of the rosary at 11:00AM. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Merline Romero, who was taken from us on September 14, 2024, at the age of 85. She was a native of Abbeville and a resident of New Iberia. She married Paul John Romero on March 17, 1957. Our mother was a woman of faith and family. She could always be found cooking in her kitchen. She also loved playing bourrée’ and going to the casino with family and friends. She was known for her caregiving heart for anyone in need. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Perry (Paul), and Tina Romero (Kirk); a son, Willie Romero (Becky); seven grandchildren, Summer McDaniel (Meaghan), Joey Myers (Genee), Rachel Allen, Andy Perry (Blaire), Jennifer Love (Brody), Monica Trivanovich (Adam), and Steven Allen (Shealy); nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Trivanovich, Mason Evans, Eli Trivanovich, Gracie Love, Emerie Myers, Molly Love, Thomas Myers, Isla Allen, and Noah Allen; two sisters, Betty Touchet (late husband Raymond) and Audrey Fremin (Leward); and a brother, David Lopez (Gail). She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Romero; and her parents, Dudley and Viola Lopez. Serving as pallbearers will be Summer McDaniel, Joey Myers, Steven Allen, Brody Love, Teddy Touchet and Hoyt Fremin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Willie Romero, Paul Perry, Kirk Romero, David Lopez, Sr., Leward Fremin, David Lopez, Jr., Andy Perry, and Adam Trivanovich. The family would like to thank the staff at Heart of Hospice, and a heartfelt thanks to Treashur Naquin and Cindy Darby for all the love and care they gave to our family.
