Merle Lee Hudson, son of Willie and Edna Hudson, was born in 1936, and he died in hospice care on July 15, 2022, at home.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia; one son, Curtis and his wife, Ursula; two granddaughters, Olivia and Valerie; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother, Roy Alvin Hudson, preceded him in death. Merle served in the Army and then came back to Lafayette to finish his degree in Agricultural Engineering at USL (now UL Lafayette). He worked for SLEMCO for 32 years before retiring.
Merle loved fresh water fishing and would often take his boat to Henderson or other local spots. He enjoyed meeting and learning about other people and made friends wherever he went.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lafayette and served in various capacities over many years; from Deacon to the Parking Ministry. His faith in Jesus was profound and he knew that his salvation is secure.
There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church at 1:00PM on Friday, July 22, and a private, family only ceremony at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00PM – 1:00PM.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Acadiana’s staff, especially Seth and Anne, for their support during Merle’s illness. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe.
