New Iberia– Funeral services will be conducted for Melisa O’Neal Jackson, age 55, on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at David Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Beard officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 5:00 p.m.
A native of Kilbourne, LA, and resident of New Iberia, Melisa O'Neal Jackson, a dedicated school teacher and assistant principal in the Iberia Parish School System, passed away at the age of 55. Throughout her 16-year career in education, she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Melisa's passion for teaching was evident in her commitment to her students' success and her unwavering support for their educational journeys. She earned a master's degree in education, further showcasing her dedication to her profession and her commitment to continuous learning.
Beyond her professional achievements, Melisa was a loving wife to her soulmate, Bobby J. Jackson, and a devoted mother to her children. Her love for her grandchildren was unparalleled, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Melisa had a creative side and enjoyed various crafts, including cross-stitches and needlepoint, which allowed her to express her artistic flair. She also had a deep love for music, finding solace and joy in playing the piano and singing during worship services at her church. Melisa's warmth, kindness, and passion for education and family will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Melisa O. Jackson is survived by her husband, Bobby J. Jackson; her children, Robert Christopher Grant (Gwendalynn VanHousen), Elizabeth Grant (Christopher Kesel), Nicholas James Jackson, Tyler Scott Jackson (Sarah Evans); 3 grandchildren, Anniston Claire Williams, Cason Michael Williams, Haisley Skye Grant, and baby “J” arriving in February 2024; her mother, Peggy Richardson O’Neal; her 2 siblings, Carol O’Neal Freeman, and Patrick Ray O’Neal.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Ray O’Neal.
