A native of Erath, M.C. passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024 a week shy of his 91st Birthday. He was a much beloved husband, father, gramps, brother, uncle and friend to those who knew him. M.C. was born on September 14, 1933 to the late Maurice and Lily LeBlanc Doré. He graduated with honors from Erath High School in 1951, received a B.S. Degree in Vocational Agriculture in 1955 from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL), received a master’s degree in 1968 from LSU, and continued getting 30 graduate hours beyond his master’s degree. Upon graduation, with no agriculture teaching job available, he went to work for Shell Oil in Weeks Island for 4-½ years. In 1959, he began his agricultural teaching career at Erath High School until his retirement in 1989. In his 30 years of educating, there was a lot of hands-on teaching. The focus was on welding, small engines, plumbing, and greenhouse production. As the sponsor for Future Farmers of America (FFA), he trained judging teams to compete at district, state and national levels. His students were aces at parliamentary procedure and leadership. It is uncountable the number of students he influenced over the years. In 1966 M.C. started Doré’s Greenhouse in his backyard using leftover lumber from the building of their family home. With the help of his children and wife, he operated the greenhouse for 57 years until his health began to decline last year. There he sold a variety of vegetable plants, enjoyed chatting with customers and sharing his gardening advice. He joined Our Lady of Lourdes Knights of Columbus Council 3872 in 1954 and was a 4th Degree member for over 60 years. He served as an usher at 4:00 p.m. mass for many years. He was a member of the Erath High School Backer’s Century Club for over 20 years and on the Hall of Fame Committee. M.C. was inducted as an Honorary Hall of Fame Member in 2011 for his years of service to EHS from 1959-1989. After his retirement you could still find M.C. collecting tickets at the Friday night football game until 2010. In 2017, he was chosen by the Erath 4th of July Association to serve as the Grand Marshal for his devotion to Erath schools, church, and community. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lucille Geoffroy Doré; his children, Joddy Landry (David), Jamie Andry (Tim), Wendy Poché (Paul), Dana Duplantis (Randy), Trudy LeBlanc (Kevin), and Scott Doré (Casey), his grandchildren, Kasey Menard (Chaz), Brandon (Nicol) and Alaina Andry, Brennan and Jada (fiance Hunter) Poché, Justin Duplantis (Amiee), Karlie Calderon (Luke) and Jonathan LeBlanc, Adam, Emily and Avery Doré; his great grandchildren, Lane and Camille Duplantis, and Gunner Menard; his sister, Annie Armentor (Lloyd), brother-in-law Donald Sehon, and his brother O.J. Doré (Patsy), along with many nieces and nephews. He also is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Sehon. Serving as Pallbearers will be his 5 grandsons, Godchild Ricky Armentor, brother O.J. Doré, and friend Barry Toups. The Doré Family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers Betty Miller, Penny Solet, Nicole Willis, and Christy Guidry. Also his physical therapist, Robin Harbourt, and nurses, Cymone Broussard and Julie Trahan with Vital Caring. Generous and kind, his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. When the initials “M.C.” are said, most can put a face or share a story about him. David Funeral Home of Erath 209 E. Putnam St. (337)937-0405 will be handling the arrangements.
