Margarie A. Louviere

New Iberia–A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Margarie Barras Louviere, age 81, on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Matthew Hebert as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and resuming on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.  until 12:30 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Margarie Barras Louviere was born September 18, 1942 to the late Edwin Sr. and Nelia Landry Barras.  She was a 1961 graduate of New Iberia Senior High and was employed for many years at Rainbow Paper Company.

She enjoyed cooking, playing Pokeno, and her weekly hair appointments. But more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them to cook.

She is survived by her children, Nelson “Buddy” Louviere Jr (Renee), Carla Louviere Pratt (Troy), and Donna Louviere Gary (Todd); grandchildren, Traci Pratt Broussard (Shane), Colton Pratt (Maddie), Andre Gary, Angelle Louviere, Shelby Gary, and Landon Gary; and great-granddaughters, Caitlin Broussard, Abigail Broussard, Caroline Pratt, and Malli Pratt.  She is also survived by a sister, Delores Menard and a brother Andrew Barras, sister in laws Brenda Langlinais, Peggy Harvey and Lorraine Barras and a brother-in-law Darrell Louviere.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Nelson Louviere Sr.; granddaughter, Calli Pratt; and siblings, Rayford Barras, Edwin “Eddie” Barras Jr., Janice Gachassin, and Gloria “Nell” Madden, mother-in-law Mary B Louviere Thibodeaux and father-in-law Envile Louviere.

Pallbearers will be Nelson Louviere Jr., Troy Pratt, Todd Gary, Colton Pratt, Andre Gary, and Landon Gary.

Honorary pallbearer is Shane Broussard.

The family would like to thank the Staff of Landmark of Acadiana and Hope Hospice for the support and kindness they shared with the family during this difficult time.
