A native of Mississippi and resident of St. Martin Parish, Mr. Rigney passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 1:00AM at Maison De Lafayette. He was born on October 4, 1944, in Mississippi, to Luther and Ides Rigney. Luther was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was the center of his universe.
A passionate outdoorsman, Luther found solace and joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending countless hours pursuing his love for nature. Whether it was a quiet day by the river or an adventurous hunting expedition, Luther found peace in the beauty of the wilderness.
Family and friends were paramount to Luther, and he thrived in the company of loved ones. His enthusiasm for football brought people together, creating cherished memories around the game. His face would light up with joy as he cheered on his favorite teams, sharing the excitement with those around him.
One of Luther's greatest joys was crawfishing with his grandchildren. Their laughter echoed through the air as they shared stories, caught crawfish, and created lasting bonds. Luther's ability to find joy in these simple pleasures left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to experience it with him.
Professionally, Luther worked as a boat captain, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his successful career. Yet, it was his kindness, humor, and genuine nature that truly defined him.
May his love for life and the great outdoors continue to inspire us all and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
He is survived by his children; Luther “Raymond” Rigney, and his wife Sarah, of Breaux Bridge and Mary McBride of Lafayette; grandchildren; Tiffany, Taylor, Sierra, Isabelle, Trenton, Kalobe, Eric, Ashley, Luther, and Matt; and great-grandchildren; and his siblings; John Paul Rigney, Bonny Odom, L.V. Rigney, C.J. Rigney, and Glenda Hollinghead.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty G. Rigney; his parents, Luther and Ides Rigney; and his siblings; Ugay Rigney, Lena Pearl Anderson, and Becky Giles.
