Loretta Fontenot Stubblefield

Lafayette - Funeral Services will be held for Loretta Ann Fontenot Stubblefield, age 74 on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with Father Russo officiating. Burial services will continue at St. Anne’s cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 9:00AM until time of services, with a recitation of the rosary at 11:00AM at David Funeral Home of Lafayette.

Raised in Opelousas and a graduate of the Academy of the Immaculate Conception (Opelousas Catholic) in 1965.  Loretta was a schoolteacher at Creswell Elementary.  She was the teacher who was known for giving the children who were hungry a nickel for milk in the morning.  She would say, “Children can’t learn if they are hungry!”

Loretta is survived by her two daughters Wendy and Misty; son in laws Dean Ponseti and Daniel Deville; grandchildren Alexis, Brianna, Allie and Dustin. Loretta was the oldest of 11 siblings. She was another mother to her younger brothers and sisters. They looked up to her for guidance, love and support.

Nothing was more special to her than her four grandchildren. When she couldn’t sleep, she would call to tell you the latest news about the grandchildren.  She shared something special with each of them.  Alexis, her first born grandbaby was the light of her eyes.  Brianna shared her love of Catholicism.  Allie loved Nana’s chicken and sausage gumbo and then there was little Dustin, her sweet baby boy.

Loretta’s door was always open to family and friends, where someone was always cooking, laughing and having a good time. She loved relaxing and reading a good book. She also found great joy and peace praying the rosary with Mother Angelica every evening on television.

She will be sadly missed by so many people.
