Kevin "Moose" Prejean, a beloved figure in both his family and community, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Iberia Medical Center. Born on December 23, 1987, to Kevin J. Prejean and the late Anissa Broussard in New Iberia, Moose dedicated over 13 years to a career in law enforcement, a profession that embodied his passion for serving others. Renowned for his infectious humor, Moose possessed a unique wit, often characterized by a delightful blend of light and dark humor. His warm and welcoming demeanor meant he never encountered a stranger, treating everyone he met as family or friend. His devotion to his actual family knew no bounds, especially evident in his cherished relationship with his daughter Skylar, who held the central place in his heart. Moose's commitment to his loved ones extended beyond words, as he consistently prioritized their wellbeing and happiness above all else. In his leisure time, he found joy in DJ'ing for various events and functions, accompanied by his brother and cherished companion, reflecting his inclination towards fostering connections and creating memorable experiences for those around him.

Kevin "Moose" Prejean's legacy is one of unwavering dedication to community service, boundless affection for his family, and a contagious spirit of laughter that touched the lives of all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those whose lives he touched with his kindness and humor.

Moose was fortunate enough to find love in his last 18 months of life with his now wife, Kristy, and was able to grow his family by adding a son and daughter to him and Skylar. The love that Kristy and Moose shared was completely unconditional with no limits as to what they would go through for one another. Their days were filled with lots of love and laughter among their newly formed family and extended to their friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

“Moose” is survived by his wife Kristy Degeyter Prejean; children, Skylar M. Prejean, Kara P. Garza, Noah L. Garza; father, Kevin J. Prejean (Dewi); siblings, Dusty V. Prejean, Devin J. Prejean, Jordan Collins (Logan), and numerous nieces, godchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anissa Broussard.

Strong shoulders will bear the weight today. Fellow officers, Moose's brothers and sisters in the thin blue line, will walk beside him one last time. They carry not just the ashes, but the weight of grief and the unwavering honor that binds them all. With this final act of service, they usher Moose to his rest.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Iberia Medical Center for the care and support during Moose’s stay in the hospital.
