Lydia – Funeral Services will be conducted for Joyce Lancon Meche, 88, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11:00 AM at. St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Randy Courville officiating. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Mausoleum.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on
Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home by the Men’s Rosary Group on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM.
A native and longtime resident of Lydia, Mrs. Meche was currently living in Lafayette. She passed away at her residence in Lafayette on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 2:15 PM.
She worked at Comeaux’s Grocery Store in Lydia. She taught Catechism at St. Nicholas Catholic Church for over 30 years. She loved to play Bou Ree’ and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cub’s, Yankees and the Saints. Easter was her favorite Holiday, where she would have the Meche-Lancon Easter Egg Hunt.
She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports and enjoyed dancing and listening to Cajun French Music. Financially, she was very generous to her family, friends, and strangers.
She was a “Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother”.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Lisa Meche, Karen Meche, Amy Ortega, Nickie Williams Meche, Davi Meche Vincent and Jamie Fargo for helping with the care of their mother.
She is survived by her children, Carl Meche and his wife Dawn of Charenton, Christine Meche of Lafayette and Melanie Meche Robin and her husband Kent of Lydia; her daughter-in-law, Karen Meche of Lydia; her sister, Nettie Lancon Savoie of Lydia; her grandchildren, Ryan Meche, Taylor Meche Gonsoulin, Kyle Meche, Dylan Meche, Emily Robin Badon, Elizabeth Robin, Kalem Romero, Scyler Miller and Cealeb Young; her great grandchildren, Davi Vincent, Josh Meche, McKinsey Meche, Cane Meche, Miles Meche, Taylor Picard and Briekyn Meche and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leward Paul Meche; her parents, George Lancon and Corrine Broussard Lancon; her son, Blaine Meche; partner-in-law, Sharlus Young Meche; her brother, Loveless Lancon and her grandchild, David Meche.
Serving as pallbearers were Carl Meche, Chris Meche, Kyle Meche, Ryan Meche, Dylan Meche and Breikyn Meche.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kent Robin and Jed Meche.
