New Iberia– Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. John Howard Valls Sr., 93, on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 10:00AM at the David Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating, followed by full military honors. Mr. Valls' inurnment will be at a later date at St. Peter Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of New Iberia on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, and resume on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 8:00AM until the time of the service. A Rosary will be led by the Men’s Rosary Group in the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 6:00PM.
John was born on Jefferson Island and spent his life embracing the simple joys that brought him immense happiness. His favorite pastime was undoubtedly cooking for his family, a passion that brought people together and filled their hearts with warmth. He had a special knack for crafting delectable dishes, particularly his famous boudin and cracklins, which became a source of delight for everyone fortunate enough to taste his creations. John's culinary talents extended to hosting vibrant boucherie gatherings during Christmas and other special occasions, where he shared his love for food and family with all.
Beyond his culinary expertise, John was a dedicated history buff, finding immense fascination in the stories of past military conflicts and world wars. His curiosity led him to explore museums and delve into the intricacies of historical events, enriching his understanding of the world's complexities.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed the thrill of visiting the casino, where he indulged in the excitement of games and the camaraderie of friends. His passion for cards shone brightly during spirited games of Bourre, where his skill and enthusiasm made every match memorable.
Professionally, John was the Co-owner of Vacco Wireline and Corrosive Specialist, where his innovative spirit thrived. He was a brilliant mind, always immersed in the world of design and creation. Whether it was custom cookware or unique seasoning blends, John's creativity knew no bounds. His legacy lives on through the countless creations he shared with the world.
In addition to his many talents, John was a loving family man and a loyal friend. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and creativity, reminding us all to savor life's simple pleasures and to cherish the moments spent with our loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Ernest “Ernie” John Valls(Jane) of New Iberia, Patrick “Pat” Valls Sr.(Lisa) of St. Martinville, Phyllis Rourke(Ken) of Katy, TX, Tracy Valls of Jefferson Island; grandchildren, Jason Valls, Lacy Morrow, Laura Delcambre, Lindsay Valls, Brittany Jones, Patrick Valls Jr., Jeremy Valls Sr., Matthew Valls, Sarah Carriere, Emily Rourke, Evan Rourke, and Chelsey Valls; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Hernandez Valls; parents, Joseph Clerphe and Beulah LeMaire Valls; son, John H. Valls Jr.; grandson, Jared Valls, great great grandson, Tate Mayfield; 3 sisters, and 6 brothers.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Patrick “P.J.” Valls Jr., Jeremy Valls Sr., Matthew Valls, Jason Valls, Evan Rourke, Jacob Valls, and Jeremy Valls Jr.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Teresa Leiva, Nurse Mallory and Hospice of Acadiana, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and Mia Rabalais with Acadiana Palliative Care for their care and compassion.
