Abbeville ~ A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Jocelyn Lyons Briggs, 78, at 11:00AM, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church of the Child Jesus with Father Chester Arceneaux officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville.
Visitation will begin at 9:00AM, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Frioux-David Funeral Home of Abbeville and continue until the time of service. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 10:00AM.
A native of Abbeville, Mrs. Jocelyn Lyons Briggs, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and godmother who cherished and nurtured those around her with boundless love and devotion. Jocelyn was a selfless woman, always placing the needs of others before her own. With a heart full of grace, she embraced every challenge with dignity, never once complaining. Her persistence in serving her loved ones, both in joy and in sorrow, was unmatched and formed the foundation of her character.
At the age of fifteen, Jocelyn met Roy Briggs while attending high school, and their love story began. Their bond grew over time, culminating in a beautiful marriage that lasted for fifty-two years. Together, they shared a life full of love, faith, and memories, and their partnership was a shining example of what true devotion looks like.
A devoted parishioner of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church of the Child Jesus, Jocelyn’s faith was her guiding light. She found comfort and strength in her relationship with God, and her devotion to Him, her husband, and her children remained the steadfast priorities of her life.
Mrs. Jocelyn Lyons Briggs is survived by her devoted husband, Roy Briggs of Abbeville; one son, Julian Briggs and his wife Jade of Lafayette; one daughter, Kiowa Duhon and her husband Hec of Abbeville; one brother, Timon Lyons and his wife Dana of Houston; two sisters, Natalie Brailey of Abbeville and Regina Williams of Houston; four grandchildren, Kai Duhon of Abbeville, Ramey Duhon of Abbeville, Phoebe Briggs of Lafayette, and Bishop Briggs of Lafayette; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Lyons and Dorothy Reaux Lyons; one brother, Clyde Lyons, and her godchild, Cordray Lyons.
Pallbearers will be Julian Briggs, Ben Segrest, Garett Thibodeaux, Baine Sonnier, Shawn Huntsberry, and Hec Duhon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyrus Brailey, Ricardo Vallot, Bishop Briggs, and Ramey Duhon.
Frioux-David Funeral Home of Abbeville at 2600 Charity St. (337)893-3777 will be handling the arrangements.
