James Orville Steen, 77, went home to be with his Heavenly Father and to join his wife of 52 years, on Thursday, August 10, 2023.
Orville was born in Franklin, Louisiana, June 10, 1946 but lived most of his life in Lafayette. Orville was the first born son to Jimmy and Bessie Steen and brother to Glenn and Susan. Baseball was his passion as a young man until he met the love of his life, Claudia Holloway. They married in 1967 and had their first born, Jennifer in 1970, Jason in 1978 and Rachel in 1979.
Orville could be described in many ways, but the phrase, “Godly man of character” fits him like a glove! Orville had a way of making everyone he came in contact with feel at ease. He built a legacy of faith, love, caring, compassion, kindness, understanding, hard work, and generosity.
Orville loved God and was an awesome example of God’s grace. His professional career was spent in the oil field pumping and drilling industry. Steen Production Service held a reputation that mirrored the qualities Orville was known for. Orville’s influence went well beyond his family. Orville loved to make you laugh, he was just funny!
Orville was the kind of person that you felt good around. He had so many wonderful people in Lafayette, Caney Lake, and all around that loved and cherished him. He could meet you on your darkest day and bring the sun with him to comfort you. He brought joy with him wherever he went.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Lynne Steen of Lafayette and Rachel Leigh Steen of Lafayette; a son, James Jason Steen and his wife Christina of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, Chase Steen DeLamar, Riley Lynne DeLamar, Grayson James Steen, Hector Cabrera, James Oliver Steen and Wyatt Nicholas Steen; a sister, Susan Roan and her husband Steve; a brother, Glenn Steen and his wife Amy; a sister-in-law Sharon Steen; and numerous family and friends.
