James Robert Deck

Lafayette – Funeral Services for James Deck, 94, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Youngsville Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Fuselier officiating. Interment will be handled by Hite Funeral Home in Kendalville, Indiana and he will be laid to rest at Woodruff Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Youngsville Baptist Church until the time of service.

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus, has taken our James Robert “Jim” Deck’s burdens and weariness and brought him home to everlasting life.  Our beloved Jim was born March 30, 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and called to the arms of Jesus on June 19, 2023, at his residence in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Throughout his long, full life, Jim served aboard a submarine in the U.S. Navy and was owner/operator of a J.R. Deck Trucking Company. After retiring, he worked in sales for Rush Peterbuilt in Orlando, Florida. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working on his trucks and tractors, and building three churches with Bethany Outreach in and around Ciudad del Maiz, Mexico.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years Venita “Bunny” Deck, their three children James and wife Lois, Robert and wife Tina Louise, and Tina and husband Jeff, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, his brother Ben Deck.

Jim was predeceased by his brother, Charles Deck, daughter, Leslie Goode, and mother Pauline Schmidt.
