Henry D Barker

Lafayette – A Memorial Service for Mr. Henry D. Barker, Sr., 87, will be held at 12:00PM on Monday, April 29, 2024 at David Funeral Chapel of Lafayette.  Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery at a later time.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, April 29, 2024 beginning at 10:00AM until the time of services.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Barker died at 11:45PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Lafayette General Medical Center.  He proudly served his country in the US Marine and the US Army.  While in college he worked for Brown and Root, Schlunmberger, and California Co. which included working oversea on several occasions.  Mr. Henry was the manager of Brown’s Thrift City and then was the manager of the University Book Store at UL of Lafayette where he retired after 42 years of service.  He was also known as an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his spouse, Sharon Bragg of Lafayette; a son, Henry D. Barker, Jr, and his wife Nancy of Lafayette; two daughters, Shawn B. Arceneaux and her husband Troy Rue of Breaux Bridge and Michelle B. John and her husband William of Carencro; two step daughters, Shannon B. Price of Liberty Hill, TX and Natalie B. Guilbeaux of Erath; a sister, Sally Wolfe; and eight step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold S. Barker and Marcelle Daboval Barker; two brothers, Samuel H. Barker and Charles Barker; and the mother of his children, Suzette Barra Barker.
