New Iberia--A celebration of life is being held for Gerald Edwin Scott, 70, at 1 pm Saturday, August 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church, New Iberia with Brother Roland Fontenot officiating. Doors will open at 1230 pm followed by fellowship and refreshments at 2:00 pm. A native of Shreveport, LA., born on Saturday, June 12, 1954, and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Scott died Wednesday, July 31 at 8 am at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia. Mr. Scott worked as an oilfield consultant at his passing. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department leading numerous search and rescue operations over several years in Iberia Parish and throughout the Gulf Coast as part of a national emergency response to hurricanes. He was a 38 year Master Mason and was serving as Tyler of Aurora Masonic Lodge in New Iberia at the time of his passing. Mr. Gerald was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Iberia. He loved time spent with family and friends. He was a sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.He was Tommy Lee Jones’ airboat driver while filming In the Electric Mist. He enjoyed serving others. He loved animals of all kinds, but dogs were his favorite. Survivors include his wife, Jean Marie Scott of New Iberia; Daughter, Katie Marie Scott of New Iberia; Son, Michael Lee Scott of New Iberia; Grandson McKane Conner Scott of Nixa, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Edward Scott, mother Christine Mosley Scott, and brother Bobby Scott.
