July 27, 1927 — March 7, 2024

New Iberia– A graveside service will be held for Georgie Vice Richard, 96, on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:30AM at Holy Family Cemetery Chapel. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery.

Georgie Vice Richard was born in Broussard Louisiana on July 27th, 1927. She was raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. Georgie moved to New Iberia Louisiana after marrying her husband of over fifty years Louis Richard. Together they would love and raise three children Johnny, Melinda and Annette.

Georgie was an amazing homemaker, her attention to detail and amazing memory combined allowed her to create perfect gifts and crafts. Granny Jo, as she was affectionately called by her grandkids, great grandkids and later on even great great grandkids, fondly remember her gifts, from her cooking, sewing, carpentry skills and home remedies to name a few.

Some of the fondest memories are her generational family stories she would tell about relatives past and present. Georgie was a self-taught Genealogist who even traveled to Germany and researched her lineage scouring gravesites and court records to get as far as she could on her family tree.

Family has always been important to Granny Jo. Georgie showed up for family in her own way, many times sitting for days at hospitals, bedsides, funeral homes or as simple as extra sugar in coffee milk.  Georgie was a proud woman and force to be reckoned with, loving us all in her own way. Her love sometimes came in the form of accusatory words and quick temper but that same passion is what showed up in times of need with a fierce love.

Georgie was 96 almost 97 years young when she passed. She has seen the world and we have heard the stories and they will continue to be carried on for generations to come.

Georgie is survived by; her daughter, Melinda F. Richard; sister, Linda Vice; grandchildren, John David and Rebeka Richard, Shawn Doiron, Michelle and Frankie Gonzales, Torey and Mitzi Primeaux, Jude Warfel, Leah and Rylan Choate, Chad and Sarah Warfel; great grandkids, Jacob and Sydney Primeaux, Tristan and Kaitlyn Primeaux, Mikaya Choate, Shjon Richard, Shelby Primeaux, Ivy Choate, Izabella Choate, Kaylee Warfel, Tyler Warfel and Harlei Warfel; and great, great grandkids, Asher Hayez Corne, Finn Joseph Primeaux and Ella James Primeaux.

Georgie was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Richard; siblings, Manson Vice, Lula Mae Vice, Melba V. Peltier, Ruby Vice, Nicolas Vice, Nicloia Vice, Levie Vice, Euna Vice and Eunice Vice; children, Johnny Richard, Annette R. Warfel; and great, great grandchild, Zoe Comeaux.
