A native of Erath, LA and a resident of Loreauville, Mrs. Barras passed away on February 22, 2025 at 2:23PM at her residence surrounded by her family.

Gaynell grew up in Erath with her family surrounded by cousins and friends.  She stayed in close contact with many of her classmates over the years and loved going to her class reunions.  She loved reading books, whom she exchanged with several local ladies over the years.  She got involved in genealogy and did lots of research of her Bodin and Primeaux families.  She worked at Leleux’s Pharmacy in town for a few years and met many people.  She loved sharing gifts with others during the holidays, whether it was her hairdresser, the mailman, post office, newspaper delivery, doctors’ offices, trash collector, she had a good and generous heart.  Spending time at the Casino was always something she greatly enjoyed. Gaynell was an avid Saints football fan and you could always find her cheering on her favorite team on game days. But, above all else, she loved her family and watching it grow. Cherished time was spent with her grandkids playing memory games and baseball with them in the backyard, always getting down to their levels at each stage of their lives.

She is survived by her daughters; Melissa B. Broussard, and her husband Patrick, of Loreauville, Karen B. Musso of Loreauville, and Charlotte B. Granger, and her husband Fraise, of Spring Branch, TX; six grandchildren; Carolyn Broussard, and her husband Andy Dykema, of New Orleans, LA, Kristin M. Bruce, and her husband Ryan, of Youngsville, Edwin "E.J." Broussard of New Iberia, Ryan Musso of Bastrop, LA, Megan Granger, and her partner Matthew Huron, of San Saba, TX, and Bryce Granger of New Braunfels, TX; two great-grandchildren; Oscar and Dimitri Dykema; and her brother-in-law Oswald Barras (Lurlean).

She was preceded in death by her husband Alton Joseph Barras; her parents; Ozare and Lydie Bodin; her sister; Dolores B. Eastin (Ray); and brother-in-law’s Gerald Barras (Hazel) and Earl Barras (Mary Lou).

Pallbearers will be Edwin "E.J." Broussard, Bryce Granger, Fraise Granger, Ryan Bruce, Andy Dykema, and Oscar Dykema.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of Acadiana, for their support during this time.

Gaynell will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Frioux-David Funeral Home, 118 S. Main Street Loreauville, LA,70552 (337)-229-8338.
