Gary was born July 25, 1952, in Shelby, Ohio. One of his favorite things to talk about was playing football in high school and how his team never lost a game. However, his most memorable event in his childhood occurred when he was 12 years old one Sunday when he served as an acolyte boy for the church meeting. That day as the preacher spoke for the last time in his church, he preached the gospel instead of preaching a sermon. As Gary sat and listened, something deep within him told him that the speaking was the truth. After the meeting, Gary went home, kneeled, prayed and received the Lord. He recalled that at the age of 14, the Lord had him read a chapter of the Bible before he slept each night. His relationship with the Lord carried him through his high school years. The day of his last football game, as he was putting on his uniform, he prayed the “Our Father” prayer. His team won the game that day with Gary scoring both touchdowns. However, back on the school bus heading home, the Lord spoke to him about the game not being what his life should be about. The Lord wanted first place in Gary’s life. Many times, Gary would look back on that moment and recount how the Lord showed him that his football victory was vanity. Afterwards he walked away from his many football scholarships and lived mainly for the Lord.

He leaves behind his wife and companion in the Lord, Ranie, his children and stepchildren, Rachel Leah, Sharon Rose, Mary, Joey, Anita, Rachel Elizabeth and Tiffany. “Grandpa” and “PaPop” also leaves behind many grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Sue and Sally. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay E. Moore and Mary Maxine Stouffer, his daughter, Julia Dawn and his brothers, Steve, David and Jay.
