A native of Centerville, LA and a resident of Broussard, Mrs. Young passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. In her lifetime, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who spent her life in service to others. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was dedicated to praying the Holy Rosary often. She was a masterful cook, baker, cake decorator, ice-cream maker, seamstress, crocheter, and quilter. Her creations, whether they be a meal, a cake, a quilt, an afghan, a receiving blanket, or a pair of baby booties, were almost always created to be given away. If Elaine Young knew you, or knew of you, you probably received a beautiful handmade gift from her in your lifetime. Despite her many talents, and all her beautiful, delicious, and artful creations, she was a model of modesty and humility. She preferred simple, practical things for herself and her home. She was happiest when that home was filled with the noise and commotion of a large gathering of her family. She and her husband, Bob, lived a life-long love story, and once joined, they were inseparable. It was rare ever to see one without the other, and now with her passing, it is comforting to know they are together once again.
She is survived by three sons; Kent Young, and his wife Mary, of Lafayette, Mike Young, and his wife Karen, of Youngsville, and Paul Young, and his wife Michele, of Norfolk, Virginia; three daughters; Eva Young of Lafayette, Mary Beth Groze, and her husband Steve, of Youngsville, and Helen St Amand, and her husband Chris, of Broussard; fourteen grandchildren; Philip Young, Stuart Young, Valerie Saunders, Clair Champagne, Andrew St Amand, Nathan St Amand, Keith St Amand, Alaina Young, Brett Young, Luke Young, Kaleb Young, Grace Young, Grant Young, and Riley Young; eight great-grandchildren; six brothers; Johnny Luke, David Luke, Joel Luke, Grant Luke, Gary Luke, and Charles Luke; three sisters; Diane Nugent, Laura Zuniga, and Malinda Yoshida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Young. Her parents John Robert Luke and Eva Laura Simoneaux Luke. One brother; Phil Luke; and two sisters; Leila Deslatte and Charlotte Hay.
Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. Serving as gift bearers will be her granddaughters.
