Ed Alan Romero, 62, was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on January 20, 1959. He was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana at his passing on January 14, 2022.
Ed is adored by his family. He has made a powerful imprint on our souls, and although we deeply mourn and feel his passing, we are also joyful. We know that he is now in heaven, surrounded by his parents and numerous other relatives. Most of all, he is with God, whom he loved so very deeply. Heaven has a glorious, perfect new angel and how can we be sad about that?
A kind, gentle and sometimes mischievous soul, Ed had a disarming smile and laugh. He is survived by his older sisters Elizabeth Primeaux (Loyce) of Erath, Louisiana and El Jane Stelly (Pete) of Lafayette, Louisiana; nephews, Neal Primeaux of Sulphur, Louisiana, Corey Primeaux of West Monroe, Louisiana, Mark Stelly (Shannon) of Lafayette, Louisiana and niece, Janet Phillips (Clayton) of Youngsville, Louisiana, as well as many other relatives.
Ed is predeceased by his father and mother, Edmar and Nilda Romero of New Iberia, Louisiana and several other relatives.
Ed was a Special Olympics athlete for many years. He participated in bowling and training/competition was one of the highlights of each year for him.
Although retired at his passing, Ed worked for many years with the LARC program. He enjoyed being with his friends at work. Like many, though, he enjoyed his time off. Ed diligently tracked the happenings of his daily life through his calendar. His days off from work were charted with the word OFF, which he often announced with glee, spelling the word out loud, O-F-F!
Ed was happy to plan for the weekend with his family even if it was just a quiet one at home. But if he could listen to Cajun music and have a dance, well, that was the best!
Ed loved to receive and pore over his weekly TV Guide, which became dog-eared by the end of the week. It was a special pleasure for him. He was also fascinated by the weather and loved to watch and listen to the weather reports. If there was a forecast for bad weather, he became concerned and was sure to animatedly let you know. BAD WEATHER! BE CAREFUL!
Ed also loved football season and enjoyed watching football games on TV. He was excited to support his favorite team and often got football attire and gear as gifts. This was a bit difficult for us as his family though, since he always seemed to have a new favorite team! It was hard to keep up!
Ed was always quite excited about the next upcoming holiday. He loved them all, but two were his favorites — the 4th of July and Christmas. He was quite patriotic and loved the American flag. He always put his hand over his heart for the national anthem, and he gave a great salute. He especially enjoyed Christmas and loved “Baby Jesus.” He loved and practiced his Catholic faith and looked forward to mass at Christmas. He was very religious and knew that Christmas celebrated Christ’s birth.
Beyond the religious celebration of Christmas, Ed was also thrilled by Santa and giggled so much in anticipation of Christmas Day. He loved to see what Santa had left for him on Christmas morning. In the middle of all the celebration and gift opening, he always started to plan and become excited for NEXT YEAR’S Christmas!
