Donna Maria Mcdonald Snoddy

New Iberia–A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Donna Maria McDonald Snoddy, 67, on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 10:00AM at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. The Louisiana Nurse Honor Guard will pay tribute to Donna at Nativity at 9:45AM before the Mass is to begin. Entombment will follow at Nativity Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, and resume on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 8:00AM until the time of the service. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:00PM, led by the Men’s Rosary Group.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Donna passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Iberia Medical Center surrounded by her family. Donna dedicated 43 years of her life to the noble profession of nursing, leaving an indelible mark as a compassionate caregiver. Her unwavering commitment to the well-being of others was evident throughout her distinguished career. She spent over two decades at Heritage Manor North, followed by 17 years at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South, where her healing touch and empathetic presence comforted countless patients.

A proud alumna of LSU Eunice, Donna's passion for nursing was recognized early in her academic journey when she was honored with the prestigious Katherine Avery Award. This accolade was a testament to her exceptional dedication and promising future in the field of healthcare.

Beyond her professional achievements, Donna found joy and solace in the company of her high school classmates, with whom she shared cherished moments during their monthly "supper club." These gatherings were a testament to the enduring friendships forged in her youth.

A devoted family woman, Donna found immense happiness in spending time with her granddaughters. Whether it was baking delicious treats together or tending to her vibrant flower garden, she created lasting memories that will be cherished by generations to come.

Donna's unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life, and her family affectionately referred to her as "Mother Theresa" for her selfless acts of kindness and her compassionate spirit. A faithful and devout Catholic, she lived her life guided by the principles of love, compassion, and service to others.

As we bid farewell to Ms. Donna, let us remember the warmth of her smile, the kindness in her heart, and the legacy of compassion she leaves behind. In celebrating her life, we honor a remarkable woman whose impact on the lives of those she touched will forever be imprinted in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Snoddy of New Iberia; son, Blake Snoddy and wife Jennifer of New Iberia; granddaughters, Avery and Reese Snoddy of New Iberia; mother, Dorothy Mae “Dot” Viator McDonald of New Iberia; mother-in-law, Ida Mae Kelley Snoddy of New Iberia; siblings, Neal McDonald and wife Valerie of New Iberia; Brent McDonald and wife Ellen of New Iberia; uncle, Olan Broussard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry “Slim” H. McDonald; father-in-law, J.D. Snoddy; and aunt and godmother, Cora Mae Viator David; and aunt, Laura Mae Viator Broussard.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Neal, Colby, Chase, Matthew McDonald, Tom and Troy Snoddy, and Richard David. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Snoddy, Brent McDonald, Bobby Broussard, and Jim Snoddy.

The family would like to thank Trisha Romero with Acadian Home Health, Dr. Sigue, Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Ditch, Erin Gannon with CDI and the Iberia Medical Center’s nursing staff for all of their care and compassion.
