New Iberia– A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Donald Gauthier, age 84, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at David Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Francis Miller OFM as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Our Lady Prompt Succor Cemetery in Coteau.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until closing at 8:00 p.m. and will resume on April 3, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Donald Gauthier, a devoted husband, father, and proud veteran, peacefully departed this life on March 29, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 29, 1939, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, to Albert and Philomene Freeman Gauthier, Donald's life was marked by service and dedication. He proudly served his nation in the Louisiana National Guard, embodying a commitment to duty and honor that defined his character.
Donald's passion for craftsmanship and the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He possessed a remarkable talent for designing and building, whether constructing two homes, barns, or any project that caught his imagination. His love for the outdoors was palpable, finding solace and joy in tending to his vegetable garden, fruit trees, and flower beds. Amidst the tranquility of his yard, Donald found moments of reflection, his faithful companion Sandy by his side. He will be remembered not only for his skills as a builder and his love for nature but also for his profound love for his family, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Mr. Donald Gauthier is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Hebert Gauthier; three daughters, Janet Pitre (Bryan), Tammy Comeaux, Holly Sevin (Tony); grandchildren, Tyler, Brittany, Adam, Cole, Halie, Abbie, Jordan, Joshua; great-grandchildren, Baylen, River, Kason, Ethan, Charlie Grace, Benny, Kaylen, Ruby, Brayden, Bella Rose, and one brother, George Gauthier (Nell).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert, and Philomene Freemin Gauthier; and one brother, Robert “Bobby” Gauthier.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Bryan Pitre, Adam Pitre, Tyler Comeaux, Devin Guillotte, Tony Sevin, and Jordan Sevin.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearer will be George “Dickie” Gauthier.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for their kindness and support during Mr. Donld’s illness.
