Deward Comeaux passed away peacefully on March 18th, 2024 at the age of 87.

Left to cherish his memory are his spouse of 65 years, Rachel Klein, daughters Cindy Adams (Bobby), Katherine Comeaux, Amanda Gaspard, sons Alan Comeaux (Sandra), and Paul Comeaux. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Lindsey Brandt, Brandon Dornak, Vanessa Comeaux, Brandon Comeaux, Macey Comeaux, Tyler Gaspard, Lauren Gaspard and four great grandchildren, Ivan Dornak, August Dornak, Nathan Brandt and Avery Brandt, his brother Danny Comeaux, sisters Audrey LaFosse and Peggy Morgan along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Eunice Comeaux, sisters Earlene, Linda, Cinda Faye, Dena, and sister-in-law Jolene Comeaux.

After graduating from High School, Deward served in the Navy for 4 years. He was introduced by his sister, Audrey, to Rachel through a blind date. After only a three-month courtship, they married and raised five beautiful children.

He worked in various positions in the oilfield industry for over 40+ years before self-employment as a painting contractor. Due to his passion for cooking, Rachel encouraged him to start Dee’s Catering. Together they worked hard to delight the taste buds of clients for 15 years!

Deward was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard, La. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and was member of the Knights of Columbus (Sacred Heart Counsel #7557) and served as Grand Knight 1982-1983.

He loved dancing, traveling, spending time with his family, and talking in French with anyone who could speak the language! Until the age of seven, his only language was French. He was also a huge fan of boxing and loved to watch it with his son, Paul.

Deward was quite the “Jack of all Trades” and able to repair or build anything! Although duct tape was his best friend!

Pallbearers: Paul and Alan Comeaux, Todd Gaspard, Tyler Gaspard, Zac Weber, and Vic Morrison.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home and all the staff in Jennings Louisiana where he resided after suffering a stroke in 2022.

A Special Tribute from his loving wife Rachel.

“Our courtship was short, our hardship was long,

But after all these years, our Love is still strong.

The rest of our lives should not be hard if we enter support-ship with our Lord.

Rest in Peace my Dear Husband, until we meet again”

David Funeral Home of Lafayette 316 Youngsville HWY (337) 837-9887 will be handling the arrangements.
