New Iberia– A Celebration of Life will be held for Derek Paul Triviz, 38, on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 3:00PM at David Funeral Home of New Iberia. Visitation will be held on Monday beginning at 1:00PM until 4:00PM.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Derek passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family after battling a year long illness. When Derek was young, he loved baseball and played at Evangeline Little League until he found his true passion, playing the drums. At the age of 12 he received his first drum set and began to teach himself. As his skills improved, many local bands took notice, and he began to receive invitations to sit in. From Sirkus to 4 Stroke and all the bands in between, Derek’s musical talent lead him to play all over Southern Louisiana and make lifelong friendships along the way.
Derek’s laugh was infectious, along with his quick-witted sense of humor, he could always make anyone around him smile. One of the greatest days in Derek’s life was when he became a father. From the moment of Sophia’s birth, he was always a gentle and attentive father, guiding her to become beautiful, sweet, kind and loving, just like him.
Derek can be summed up by these words: Loyal, Family, Loving, and a Great Cook. Derek was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Sophia Camille Triviz of New Iberia; parents, Rick and Karen Clements Triviz of New Iberia; sister, Keely Sonnier (Chance Nation) of Lafayette; brothers, Garrick Triviz and Brent Triviz both of New Iberia; maternal grandmother, Luna Clements of Franklin; nephews, Drew, Drake and Stryker; great niece, Luna; great nephew, Dalton; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; and godchild.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dallas Clements; paternal grandparents, Pete and Camille Triviz; 2 uncles, Darryl Clements and Gerry Triviz.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
