Clarice Guidry Vollenweider, 88, of Broussard, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Clarice was born on July 26 1935, in Lafayette, to Corine Hollier Guidry and Frank Guidry. She was the eldest of two children.
She attended St. Cecilia School and Spencer Business College, where she studied secretarial skills. She worked as a secretary at Marks Hardware for several years, and later provided meals to the elderly through a community service program.
She met Edgar Vollenweider, the love of her life, on a blind date on the feast of Mount Carmel in 1959. They married on September 17, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where they remained faithful members for over six decades. They were blessed with seven children, twenty grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Clarice was a devout Catholic who lived her faith every day. She served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, and a participant in the Prayer Tree. She loved singing in the choir and volunteering for the Broussard Community Fair. She was also active in the PTA of St. Cecilia School, where her children attended.
Clarice enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who called her Mee maw. She was an excellent cook and was most known for her roast with red gravy, corn casserole, and red beans and rice, which was Edgar's favorite dish. She was generous with her time and talents, and always had a smile and a joke to share. Her humor and loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Terrie (Greg) Monte, Joan (Barry) Reiners, Edgar (Jennifer) Vollenweider, Jr, Gail (Scott) Benton, Frank Vollenweider, Anna (Trent) Landry and Steven (Susie) Vollenweider, her grandchildren, Jay, Jude, John Monte, Erin, Kevin, Emily Reiners, Annelise (Jon) Murders, Madeline, Caroline, Andrew Vollenweider, Eric, Richard Benton, Matt Hallenback, Madison Thomas, Justin, Nicholas( Beth) Landry, Sara, Sally, Sam and Sean Vollenweider, and her great grandchild, Ned Duvoisin, her brothers-in-law Lester (Yvonne) Vollenweider and George "Pete" (Patricia) Vollenweider, and her sister-in-law Myra (Tom) Casey.
Clarice is preceded in death by her husband Edgar Vollenweider, her parents, Frank and Corine Guidry, her brother Charles Guidry, her brothers-in-law Lawrence (Betty Jo) Vollenweider, Howard (Patricia) Vollenweider, Emmett (Shirley) Vollenweider, and Melvin (Greta) Vollenweider and her sisters-in law Doris (Cyril) Deary and Yvonne (Lester) Vollenweider.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Eric Benton, Andrew Vollenweider, Sam Vollenweider, Justin Landry, Kevin Reiners, and Jay Monte.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heart of Hospice and A Care Partner of Louisiana for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clarice's memory.
