Lafayette – A Services of Remembrance for Mr. Calvin Joseph Dershem, 84, will be held at 3:00PM on Monday, April 19, 2021 at David Funeral Home Chapel of Lafayette. Interment will be held at a later date at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 11:00Am until the time of the services. The service will be followed by military honors.
A native of Lock Haven, PA and a resident of Breaux Bridge, Mr. Calvin passed away peacefully at 3:35AM on Friday, April 16, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. He joined the US Navy in 1954 and proudly wore the uniform for 21 years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He called Louisiana his home since he loved the food, fishing, and the milder winters. Mr. Calvin worked in the oil field for over 25 years before retiring. He was a member of the NRA and volunteered with his grandson, Tony, as a Range Safety Officer at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff Shooting Range.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy Chiasson Dershem of Breaux Bridge; a son, Ray (Kim) Dershem; a daughter, Renee (Rayford) Demette; five siblings, Joyce Bressler, Dorothy Reeder, James (Nancy) Dershem, Ruth (Calvin) Walk, and Marian McKean; a sister in law, Diane Dershem; five grandchildren, Dawn (Davis) Curtis, Rachel Dershem, Daniel Dershem, Anthony (Billie) Demette, and Amber (Stefan) Hawkins; and seven great grandchildren, Jasmine, Jordan and Joseph Curtis, Olivia Sigley, Jacelyn Melancon Demette, Adelynn and Jonas Hawkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin, and Virginia Egan Dershem; a brother, Elmer Dershem; three brothers in law, Dave Bressler, Robert Reeder, and Lee McKean; and a great granddaughter, Stellah Rae Rudisill Dershem.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Wendy, Tiny, and Nurses Specialty Hospice.
