Aunteal “Slim” Thibodeaux passed away peacefully in his home on August 6, 2022 at the age of 83. In recent months, his health declined quickly; however, he was surrounded by his loved ones until the end.
Aunteal was born on December 29, 1938 to Nelson Thibodeaux and Agnes Broussard Thibodeaux. After growing up in Crowley, he tackled many jobs in his lifetime: auto mechanic, oilfield pipe hauler, cross country truck driver, hard metal welder. Aunteal started an oilfield service company, teaching his son-in-law, Chris, the trade, which is still carried on today. He became known to many in the Lafayette community through his service as a deputy with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and retired after 12 years.
Aunteal was always good for a visit over a cup of coffee, a strong handshake, or help with a small engine problem. He was a hard-working man of his generation who was always working on projects in his shop. Aunteal was Cajun to the core with a passion for fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. He cherished time with his family and his little dog, Izzie.
Aunteal is survived by his wife, Dorothy Thibodeaux, of 63 years; their children Cheryl Lane (Chris), Sonya Thibodeaux, and Dwight Thibodeaux (Heather); grandchildren Crystal Lane, Meghan Allen, Cody Lane, Olivia Richard (Shannon), and Ian Thibodeaux; and great-grandchildren CJ Breaux, Savannah Allen, and Kinsley Richard; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Agnes Thibodeaux; his daughter, Lori Thibodeaux; his brothers Norris Thibodeaux, Alton Thibodeaux, and Amar Thibodeaux; and his nephew, Nelson Thibodeaux.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeff Thibodeaux, Alton “Buddy” Thibodeaux, Chris Lane, Cody Lane, Ian Thibodeaux, and Shannon Richard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Hebert and Milton Naquin.
The family extends a special thanks to Lourdes Hospice and Lourdes Home Health for their kindness and care; Dr. Lemoine for his attention to his health; Come! Lord Jesus! in Youngsville for their compassion and spiritual devotion; Milton and Christine Naquin for their unwavering support and kindness; Travis Menard for his timely help when called on; and the many others who assisted in his care.
The family especially thanks Randy Hebert for his continued friendship to Slim over many years. Randy’s loyalty and companionship were a great blessing and brought happiness to Slim’s life.
