Lafayette – Memorial Services for Mr. Augustin Brasher, Jr., 84, will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at David Funeral Home of Lafayette with Deacon Cody Miller officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Milton.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at David Funeral Home until the time of services.
A native of Lafayette Parish and a long time resident of Lafayette, Augustine Brasher, Jr. passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Augustin Jr. was well known for having a ‘green thumb’ in gardening and enjoyed feeding and watching his hummingbirds. He worked for Maxie Duhon for several years, later switching and working for Southern Structures for 31 years before retiring at the age of 62. Upon his retirement, Augustin, Jr. planted a small vegetable garden and he and his wife Viola enjoyed going to casinos, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He also loved hunting, fishing, and playing with his cats.
He is survived by a niece and godchild, Judy Turner of Lafayette; a niece, Mary Trahan of Lafayette; six great nieces and nephews, Nita (Marc) LeBlanc of St. Martinville, Kathy Trahan of Lafayette, Linda (Nick) Schaubert of New Iberia, Teddy (Misty) Turner of Coteau, Jason (Kenzie) Trahan of New Iberia, and Jay (Tiffany) Trahan of Lafayette; two step-sons, Mitchell (Marty) Ortego and Steven (Tina) Ortego; one step-granddaughter, Megan Ortego of Austin, Tx; nine great-great nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Keagan) Delahoussaye of St. Martinville, Nichole LeBlanc of St. Martinville, Daton Trahan of New Iberia, Kylie Trahan of New Iberia, Kelsie Trahan of New Iberia, Easton Trahan of New Iberia, Jordyn Turner of Coteau, Austin Trahan of New Iberia and Ridge Turner of Coteau; and a great-great-great niece, Adilynn Delahoussaye.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Viola Ortego Brasher; his parents, Augustin Brasher, Sr and Elodia Stevens Brasher; a step-grandson, David Ortego; a step-granddaughter, Emily Ortego; two brothers, Adam Brasher and Francis Brasher; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Bourque Brasher.
