Angie Rogers Gauthier

July 31, 1940 — October 11, 2023

Jeanerette--Gertrude “Angie” Gauthier left this world peacefully on October 11, 2023, and is rejoicing with her heavenly family.  Angie was born on July 31, 1940, to Angie LeBlanc Rogers and Leon Rogers.  Her mother died while giving birth to Angie.  She and her one-year-old sister were each raised by different sisters of their mother.  Adelia LeBlanc Comeaux and Wallace Comeaux became the loving and wonderful parents of Angie and she was a very caring, devoted, and loving daughter to them throughout their whole lives.

Always a very faith-filled person and devout Catholic, Angie graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Jeanerette in 1958.  After graduating from USL in 1962, with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education she began teaching at South Terrebonne High School where she met the true love of her life and husband of 55 years, Stephen Edlyn Gauthier. After a few years, they moved to Jeanerette and both began teaching at Franklin High School where Angie taught English and Literature.  Many former students would come by to visit over the years and enjoy a cup of coffee. She maintained friendships with many former students up until the very end of her life.

Angie and Steve raised their three children, a daughter Noel, and two sons Stevie and Chris.      While raising three children and caring for her aging parents, she went to USL at night with Steve obtaining her Master’s Degree in Education in 1973 and Educational Specialist Degree in 1975.   She then became a Guidance Counselor in the school system.  In her career, she touched the lives of countless students, and in her life, she touched the lives of everyone she met.

Angie loved to play tennis over the years with Steve and all their friends and he built a tennis court in their back yard which gave their whole family much enjoyment.  During any major tournament, she would jokingly say she was in England watching Wimbledon or New York watching the U.S. Open as she watched the matches on TV day and night. She also loved dancing, especially line dancing.  As an avid visitor of estate sales, Angie enjoyed collecting antiques. She also was a cat whisperer as any cat would immediately take to her and she loved her cats as well as all creatures of God.

She was a great, true, and loyal friend to many who will miss her immensely.  Most of all she was the best mother, daughter, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family that she adored.   Her strength, resilience, and selflessness during her illness and her life are shining examples for those she leaves behind.  Angie embodied and personified such immense grace, courage, and love in her life and her death.  The admiration, love, and respect her family feels for her is indescribable and she will be profoundly missed by them all.

Angie was an extremely giving, caring, and compassionate person to everyone she encountered.  She was very humble.   She prayed hard and often and for anyone in need often with a rosary clutched in her hands.   Her faith in God was unwavering.   With such a generous heart, she quietly and humbly helped anyone down on their luck or in need never wanting any acknowledgment or recognition.  Angie would often tell her children that God put us on this earth to help others. Angie was a true servant of God, a genuine good soul.

Angie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen Edlyn Gauthier; her beloved youngest child, Christopher Jude Gauthier, whom she missed every single day in addition to her parents and a son-in-law, Steven Paul Blanchard.

She leaves behind many friends and family who loved her dearly including her daughter, Noel Gauthier Landen, and son Stephen Edlyn Gauthier II, as well as her son-in-law, Keith Landen who both she and Steve deeply loved as a son.  She was blessed with two granddaughters whom she adored and cherished, Amanda Blanchard Percle married to Bryce and Morgan Blanchard Allain married to Robert; as well as three great-granddaughters, Emmeline Percle, Olivia Allain, and Noelle Allain. She is also survived by her loving sister, and lifelong neighbor, Gayle Clement.
