Coteau"A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Kenwood Joseph (Ken) Romero, 78, of Coteau will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Reverend Barry Crochet will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter Street, New Iberia, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Romero passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 12:25 A.M. in a Lafayette hospital. A native of Iberia Parish, Mr. Romero was a lifelong resident of Coteau. He was employed by the Iberia Parish School Board as a bus driver for many years, all of which were in service to the children of the Coteau area. Mr. Ken and Bus #24 will be remembered by many. Mr. Romero was a U.S. Army veteran, having served most of his tour in Germany. During his military career he was fortunate to have visited many European countries. During one visit to Rome, Mr. Romero was granted an audience with Pope Pius XII. He shared this story with everyone. Mr. Romero was a member of American Legion Post 335. Mr. Romero was a dedicated woodworker, whose passion was for cabinet making. He also enjoyed yard work and gardening. His grandchildren brought him the greatest joy, from the eldest to the youngest and all in between. Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Romero Broussard and husband Pressley J., Jr. of Maurice and Dawn Romero Domingue and husband, Mark of Lafayette; one son, Robert Bryan Romero and wife, Connie Dutil Romero of Coteau; grandchildren, Scott Michael Broussard, Jason Paul Broussard, Pressley (Joey) Broussard III of Maurice, Elana Kay (Lanie) Romero of Coteau, Megan Lee Romero, Amanda Marie Domingue, and Mathew Mark Domingue of Lafayette; great-grandchildren, Jenny Lee Broussard of Monterey, and Braydon Marshall Broussard and Drake Scott Broussard of Kaplan; sisters, Marion Oliver of Houston, TX and Pearl Halphen and Grace Romero of Coteau; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Preceding Mr. Romero in death are his wife of 29 years, Jenny Lee Babineaux Romero; parents, Sylvan (TB) and Amy Derouen Romero; father-in-law, Robert Babineaux; brother, Jack Romero, and brothers-in-law, Clarence Oliver and Alvin Halphen. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Romero, Pressley Broussard, Jr., Mark Domingue, Scott Broussard, Jason Broussard, and Pressley (Joey) Broussard III. Named as honorary pallbearers are Kenny and Scott Halphen and Keith Oliver. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
