John Broussard, Sr.

July 25, 1919 — April 2, 2006

Jeanerette " Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the David Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Degeyter officiating for John "Big John" Broussard, Sr., 86 who died on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 5:52 AM in Iberia Medical Center. Interment will follow in St. John Mausoleum. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 9:00 AM till 11:00 AM and a rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette. Mr. Broussard was a sugarcane farmer for 35 years and was a past vice president of St. Mary Sugar Co-Op. He was an honorary member of the Board at St. Mary Sugar Co-Op until his death. He was also a past member of the Iberia Parish Farm Bureau. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the US Marines and was a member of the American Legion Post 26 and V.F.W. Post 8150. Mr. Broussard was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, Lurline Broussard Broussard of Jeanerette; his sons, Larry Broussard and his wife Phyllis and Jerry Broussard both of Jeanerette; his daughters, Barbara B. Matthews and her husband Randy of Forth Worth, TX and Peggy B. Wilcox and her husband Ray of Houston, TX; his grandsons, Master Sgt. Brooks Bergeron, USMC of Pensacola, FL, James Bergeron of Minneaoplis, MN, Brandon Broussard of Denham Springs, Sam Broussard of Lafayette, LA and Cody Broussard of Jeanerette, LA; his granddaughters, Melissa Matthews of New Iberia, LA, Kimberly Wilcox of Austin, TX, Kristen Wilcox of North Carolina and Danielle Broussard of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren. He is preceeded in death by his father, Cleve Broussard; his mother, Levie Landry Broussard Haydel and his son, John Broussard, Jr.. Pallbearers will be family members. David Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.
