Jeanerette.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday May 13, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church for Mr. Sam Pope, Age 94. Mr. Pope died Tuesday May 9, 2006 at 10:15 AM in a New Iberia Hospital. Interment will follow in Beau Pre Mausoleum. Rev. Ed Degeyter, pastor of St. John The Evangelist Church will officiate. Visiting hours will be observed Friday May 12 from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM and will resume Saturday May 13 from 8:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed Friday May 12 at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Pope was a native of Adaline, La. And a resident of Jeanerette. He retired from Columbian Carbon Black as a welder after 20 years of service. He was a past member of the C.C.C. organization of Cansville, La. He is survived by his wife-Mary Pope of Jeanerette, One Son-Johnny Pope and his wife Judy of Shalimar, Fl., One daughter-Linda Gatte and her husband John of Jeanerette, La. One step son- Jack Houck of Lacombe, La., Three Step daughters- Roxie Pentelton of Lacombe, La., Glenda Pearson and Mary Ivaniski both of Slidell, La., Two nieces- Mary Ann Carline of Baldwin, La. And Gail Taylor of New Orleans, La., and One nephew-David Pope of Jeanerette, La. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren He was preceeded in death by his parents-Joseph Pope and Mary Perry Pope and a sister-Tiny Pope. Honored to serve as pallbearers: Bryan Pope, Jeremy Pope, Johnny Pope, Ronnie Broussard and John T. Gatte and Jim Jones.
