David Baez, Jr.

Lydia"A Mass of Christian Burial for David Baez, Jr., 81, of Grand Marais will be celebrated on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery, Jeanerette. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 from 8:00 A.M. until service time in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 A.M. in the church. Mr. Baez passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 1:05 P.M. in a Lafayette care facility. A native of New Iberia and lifelong resident of Grand Marais, Mr. Baez was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a sharpshooter in the Asian Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. A retired sugar cane farmer and electrician, Mr. Baez also sold and repaired water softener systems. Survivors include a Godchild, Mary Jo Couvillon of Abbeville; several relatives in Spain; and a host of friends. Preceding Mr. Baez in death were his parents, David Baez, Sr. and Eugenie Olivier Baez. Serving as pallbearers are friends of Mr. Baez. The friends of Mr. Baez wishes to extend a special thanks to his caregivers, Diane Boutte, Lonnie Boutte, Joseph Willie Boutte, Seanna Boutte, Vanetta Foulcard, and Sheila Jacquet; the staff at LTAC of Acadiana Rehab Center; and Mr. Baezs longtime loyal farmhand, John Louviere. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
