NEW IBERIA - Services for Herbert Spec A. Bertrand Sr., 71, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at David Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Leleux officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at 8 a.m. until the time of service. A native of Youngsville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bertrand died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Bertrand was a retired machinist, an avid fisherman and hunter and served in the Louisiana National Guard. He loved his family and was a loving companion and friend. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dot Carrier Schexnayder Bertrand of New Iberia; a son, Herbert A. Bertrand Jr. of Lafayette; a daughter, Kim Bertrand Brackin of Youngsville; two step-daughters, Stephanie Leleux and husband Rev. Kenneth Leleux of New Iberia, and Jan Ellen Courville and husband Timmy of Lafayette; a step-son, Brian Edward Schexnayder and wife Sheri of Plano, Texas; a brother, Lester Bertrand of New Iberia; a grandson, Ryan Brackin of Youngsville; a stepdaughter in law Rena Schexnayder; six step-grandsons, Joel Leleux of New Iberia, Alex and Skylar Schexnayder, both of Plano, Texas, Jonathan and Brady Bowen, both of Lafayette, and Sean Bowen of Pineville; four step-granddaughters, Amber Daspit of Lafayette, Autumn Bowen of Indianapolis, Aubrey Barras and Laura Reaux, both of Lafayette; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Bertrand was preceded in death by his parents, Authemond and Loda Boutte Bertrand; a son, Authur Artie Bertrand; two sisters, Anna Belle Bertrand Viator and Joyce Bertrand Lancon; and a brother, Huey P. Bertrand; a stepson Daniel Schexnayder and a stepdaughter Pamela Schexnayder. Pallbearers will be Roy, Mark and Gerard Lancon, Jonathan and Brady Bowen and Timmy Courville. Honorary pallbearers will be Barney Heinzn, Lawrence Romero Jr., Glenn Townley and Matthew Bertrand. David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of the arrangements.
