Abbeville " A memorial service for Mrs. Emile Coon Broussard the former Azema Suire, 88, will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at 1:00PM at David Funeral Chapel of Abbeville with Deacon Chris Mouton officiating. A gathering of remembrance will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at 12:00PM until the time of service at David Funeral Home of Abbeville. Interment will follow at St. Pauls Cemetery. Mrs. Broussard a native of Lafayette and a resident of Abbeville died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 9:50AM at Heritage Manor of Abbeville. Mrs. Azema was the fourth child born to Adam and Judith. As a young girl she worked in the fields picking cotton, cutting cane, and working in the sugar mill. After leaving Milton she worked at a greyhound bus station in Lafayette and then relocated to Abbeville where she met and married Emile Coon Broussard. Shortly thereafter she began working for the Gooch family at City Cleaners and Laundry, where she worked for over 25 years. You would see her walking all over town because she did not drive. Everyone knew her as a friendly person that knew no stranger. She had a very limited education, but was very talented, making many hand stitched quilts for grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and family. She sewed for many people in Abbeville, she was known as the neighborhood seamstress. In her later years she was very active with the Council of Aging, playing bingo, pok-ke-no, and going to the casino with the senior citizens. Later she became a resident of Heritage Manor where she was active in all that was offered there. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine B. Trahan of Abbeville; a grandson, Anthony Tony and his wife Dana Trahan of Carencro; a great grandson, David A. Trahan of Carencro; a great granddaughter, Mimi Trahan of Carencro; a brother, Treville and his wife Paula Suire of Milton; and a sister-in-law, Marie Aline Suire of Abbeville She is preceded in death by her husband, Emile Coon Broussard; parents, Adam and Judith Breaux Suire; seven brothers, Nicholas, Ernest, Uselin, Lucien, Antoine, Leo, and Shirley Suire; and one sister, Eva Gary David Funeral Home of Abbeville will be handling arrangements
