JEANERETTE - Services for Lovancie LJ J. Morvant, Sr. 78, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville. Visiting hours will be observed Monday, August 7, 2006 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 8 a.m. until the time of service. A native of Loreauville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Morvant died at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Consolata Nursing Home. Mr. Morvant began working at W.L. Landry Funeral Home in Jeanerette in 1964. He continued working for David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, when the David family purchased W.L. Landry Funeral Home, until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 26 of Jeanerette. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Helen Rawlins Morvant of Jeanerette; a daughter, Belinda M. Viator and husband Douglas of Jeanerette; two sons, Joel A. Morvant Sr. and fiance Barbara Fontenot of New Iberia, and Lovancie J. Boo Morvant Jr. of Jeanerette; two step-brothers, Weakless LeBlanc Sr. and wife Joyce of Jeanerette, and Demas Donnie LeBlanc and wife Betty of Morgan City; two half-brothers, Edward Morvant of Olivier and Ira Morvant of New Iberia; three half-sisters, Verona Morrison of Caldwell, Texas, Jenores Lohr of New Iberia, and Nadean Hebert of New Iberia; a granddaughter, Callie Camille Viator of Jeanerette; and three grandsons, Joel A. Morvant Jr. of New Iberia, Blake Viator of Jeanerette and Ridge Morvant of New Iberia. Mr. Morvant was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Camille Crochet Morvant; a son, Brian Morvant; two half-brothers, Paul Cassel Morvant and Travis Morvant; and step-father, Dema LeBlanc. Pallbearers will be Joel A. Morvant Sr., Joel A. Morvant Jr., Ridge Morvant, Douglas Viator, Blake Viator and Weakless LeBlanc Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Louvancie J. Boo Morvant Jr., Demas "Donnie" LeBlanc, Mark LeBlanc, Weakless LeBlanc Jr., Effron Savoy and Darrell Choate. David Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of the arrangements.
