A native of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Merryman died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 3:30AM at his residence. Mr. Merryman served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Major. After his retirement from the military, he was an electronics technician and instrument landing systems specialist. His favorite past times were electronics, flying, amateur radio communication, restoration of antique radios, and fishing.
Mr. Merryman is survived by six children: Jim Merryman and wife, Dawn, of Lafayette; Claire Merryman Delaune and husband, Richard, of New Iberia; Scott Merryman and wife, Mary, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Kim Merryman Landry and husband, Kevin, of New Iberia; Elizabeth Merryman Galloway and husband, Ashley, of Roswell, Georgia; and Suzy Merryman Picard and husband, Royd, of Broussard, and their mother, Georgia McCarter Merryman; sixteen grandchildren: Joshua Merryman Brown, Reece, Haley, and Caroline Merryman; Matt, Megan, and Elise Delaune; Paul Merryman; Courtney, Mallory, and Amelie Landry; Ashley Delcambre Ryan, Adam Delcambre, and Christopher Galloway; Taylor and Kalyn Picard; and one great grandchild, Emily Belden. Mr. Merryman is also survived by three of his thirteen siblings: Jean Merryman Russeff of Lakeport, California, Leona Merryman Bethell, of Rincon, Georgia, and Eileen Merryman Reed of Moore, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Merryman was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Georgia Beard Merryman and ten siblings.
