New Iberia - Funeral services for Henry Anthony Walet Sr., 93, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 11, 2006 at Nativity of our Lady Catholic Church.Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum.Mr. Walet died Sunday October 8, 2006 at 4:30 a.m. in New Iberia.

Survivors include three children, a daughter Sandra Aucoin and her husband, Philip (Pete) Aucoin of New Iberia, two sons, Walter (Sonny) Walet of New Iberia, and Henry (Bubba) Walet Jr. and his wife Margaret Hudson Walet of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Bertel Fite and husband David, Mary Gwen Mitchell and husband Jeff, John Kipp and wife Nora, Henry Kipp, Robin Kipp Shea and husband Michael, Jennifer Walet Gardner and husband Steven, Roland Walet, and Michelle Walet; three step-grandchildren, Lynn Riddle and husband Lee, Suzanne Kelley and husband Jason, and Chris Oubre and wife Misty; fifteen great-grand children; and seven great step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Doerle Walet, a son Glenn Anthony Walet, a daughter Anna Loy Walet Weber, and a daughter-in-law, Loretta Comeau Walet; his parents Walter and Aurelia Mestayer Walet; and seven brothers and sisters, Roland Walet, Merlin Walet, Walter Walet, Alvin Walet, Mercedes Walet, Corrine Hamilton, and Mildred Walet.

Mr. Henry Walet was a native of New Iberia. He was born December 1, 1912. He proudly served his country in World War II, in the United States Army Air Corp, as a Staff Sergeant overseas. His love for traveling was exceeded only by his love for his family. He enjoyed traveling around the world, exploring the history and experiencing the different cultures and languages of the places he visited. He was an avid reader and a community volunteer.

After his military service, he and his wife Gertrude opened Walets Hardware in 1946. He became involved in civic and church organizations, where he held various positions on the board of directors for the Sugar Cane Festival, Iberia Parish Health Unit, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Council. He was also an active member of the Lions Club, and during the summer, he would drive special needs children to summer camp.

Pallbearers will be, Walter (Sonny) Walet, Henry (Bubba) Walet Jr., Philip (Pete) Aucoin, John Kipp, Michael Shea, and Steven Gardner.

A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. David Funeral Home in New Iberia.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
